| Acquiring tools for analyses of picture books from aesthetic, moral and psychological perspectives. |
| 授業概要 |
| How does early reading convey moral lessons and implant prejudices? How differently are girls and boys depicted in their dealings with bedtime? How could deaths of pets, grandparents, and the increasingly important issue of war and death be a theme for picture books? This course analyzes some classic English and American picture books from aesthetic, moral and psychological perspectives. We will examine books dealing with themes of bedtime, loss, discipline and the young child's relationship with her/himself. Based on an awareness of the issues discussed in class, students will be encouraged to create their own picture books. The importance of reading aloud as a relational activity will also be stressed. |
