学習目標
1.Develop critical thinking skills and a desire to express ideas through writing.
2.Develop sentence-level writing skills.
3.Develop the ability to give reasons and examples to support ideas.
4.Develop the ability to write a variety of well-organized paragraphs.
5.Develop the ability to recognize and correct writing errors.
6.Develop the ability to write academic essays using rhetorical structures such as cause/ effect, comparison/ contrast, and argumentation.
7.Develop an understanding of the writing process and the importance of avoiding plagiarism.
授業概要
 This course is designed to give English majors a strong foundation in writing by developing students' ability to express ideas in English using accurate and sophisticated English. Students will practice their sentence-level and paragraph writing skills and then learn how to plan, draft, revise, and edit a source-based academic essay. Students will practice both descriptive and argumentative writing. Students are expected to develop the ability to assess and edit their own work and to become independent writers with a sense of ownership of their work. Writing will be based on students' personal experiences as well as a variety of texts from this course and other required 2nd year courses.
