授業概要 |
This course is designed to give English majors a strong foundation in reading by developing students' abilities to understand different types of reading texts in English. The readings are selected to help students develop critical reading skills by focusing on specific themes each term: Term 1 "Giving and Helping," and Term 2 "Language, Media, and Communication." Students will acquire abilities to read different materials and to use different reading strategies, such as identifying the main idea and topic sentence, making an outline of the text, and writing a summary of the text. Students will practice reading, using different materials; personal essays, academic essays, newspaper articles, and others. Students will also learn to read some literary texts; picture books, children's literature and/or short stories. They are expected to read various texts in-depth and form their own ideas and opinions about what they read. |
