Dickensの２作品を扱う。まずA Christmas Carol (1843)を通してDickensの基本的な特徴となる、人物造型、誇張法、感傷性、「伝統的」価値観の用い方、社会的背景の取り込み方を分析する。次にGreat Expectations (1861)を読み、物語展開上の技法、時代を超越するテーマの魅力の分析を試みる。
