By the completion of the course, students will be able to: 1. Describe the sound system of English. 2. Describe the suprasegmental features of English. 3. Compare and contrast the sound systems of English and Japanese. 4. Analyze phonetic data to use them in theses.
授業概要
This course is designed for students who will write their theses on phonetics and phonology. We will read a number of articles related to the topics students are working on. Topics in the second semester include phonics, mora and syllable structure, accents, and language play. All students are required to critically review the articles and actively participate in class discussions. Throughout the course, students will be introduced to techniques for analyzing data and writing academic papers on phonetics and phonology.
