This course attempts to study how the most recent ecopolitical insights can inform critical readings of Shakespeare. In curious ways, new ideas about nature and animals have analogues in old ideas expressed in Shakespeare's plays. The latest developments in science and philosophy return us to the fundamental problems of human existence regarding our relations with one another, and with nature and the animals, the very issues dramatized in the plays.
