This course aims at understanding components of conversation and observing how those components are used in media discourse. Students are encouraged to think critically about how social factors such as gender, age, ethnicity, or status differences of participants affect language use in various contexts. Students are encouraged to collect their own data from the media for class discussions and workshops.

Regular attendance, reading assignments, data collection, a mid-term project/exam and a final paper.
