授業計画
This course is meant to be a general introduction to the field of linguistics.
The first term will begin with the fundamental sounds of language, by examining the phonetics of English and Japanese. Phonology and the concept of the phoneme and allophone will then be discussed as well as the concept of sound universals and markedness.
The second topic will be that of grammar and morphology.
The second semester will examine syntax, within the framework of transformational grammar. Certain general notions of this theory will be discussed.
The second half of the second term will be devoted to the language families of the world and their relationships, including some principles of comparative linguistics.
