The course aims to develop the student's four basic English skills-reading, writing, listening, and speaking-through examination of key issues that concern the local. national and world communities. Interdiscipilary in approach, the program of studies exposes the students to a wide reading selection-sociology, economics, politics, science, and arts-on which they will be taught to formulate their own creative responses and to express themselves either in writing or in oral presentation. The sub-theme of the course is "war." War may be understood as not just military combat but as any situation where peace is threatened or ignored or abused. The course challenges the student to prepare herself for her future as an active member of society, capable of bringing a change and making a difference.
